Hiking time is here again

Country road, Take me home, to the place I belong... the mountains. The trails, they call out to me and I am eager to come to their call. The winter is all but over and the snow is finally leaving most of the paths. Give it a good week or two and the pathfinders will be up hiking around the hills and the season will be on.

So get your hiking boots out and a lite jacket or windbreaker, spring hiking is here. Join with me and start heading to the hills to work off a little of that winter weight that you have added. Who's with me?

Oh Spring, you can't come soon enough

I have the fever and it is only getting worse by the day. Spring fever is in the air and I have got it bad. I need good skies, slightly chilly temperatures to keep the bugs away and a trail to hike on. The combination of those three is near euphoric to me.

With the winters being so strange this year, my mind is having a hard time being patient. I think that spring has finally come and then we have a major snow storm and it puts it behind another week or so. So come on planet Earth, I need some constancy here. Bring on some beautiful spring weather.

Pedaling your way through life

Grease your gears and head off on some dirt road. Though the weather is still in flux, that doesn't mean you can't jump on your mountain bike and explore the wilderness. Mountain biking is such a great way to get outside. You get a workout on the hills, you get a thrill on racing down the track and it is an eco-friendly way to explore little known trails.

Even if you are not adventurous enough to head on a trail just yet because of the snow and mud, get your truing stand out and get your bike ready or get it into the bike shop before the rush happens. I have taken my bike in the middle of the season and it almost a week to get a simple tune up done, so save yourself the lost time, and take care of it now.

Make your own path through the snow

Sometimes you just have to make your own path to enjoy the glories of the outdoors. Sometimes I just like to go up into a canyon, strap on some snow boots and just head out.
There is something so surreal about going on a hike when you feel like no one has ever been in the canyon because there is no tracks to show otherwise.

I have never gone really hard cover and spend the night one of these hikes but a co-worker was just telling me how epic it is to build yourself a snow cave and go all man vs. wild on your hike. Though I am willing to try, I haven't done this yet, but I feel I am up to the challenge.

Head to the Slopes

Now is the time to take advantage of this freezing cold weather and scary morning commutes, by heading up to the mountains. Whether with friends, family or just taking advantage of the single rider lanes, this is the time for you carve your own path through the snow.

Either head up to a resort if you have one nearby or you can plan a nice weekend trip and fly somewhere. Most resorts will pick you up at the airport and pretty much take care of everything for you. My personal favorite mountains to ski are in Utah but to each their own. Good luck and Enjoy the Snow!!

Biking is still pretty dangerous

I am not saying that all biking is this dangerous but sometimes it feels like it. I am both active in road and mountain biking and I am off the belief that road biking will probably lead me to getting an injury before any of my antics on my mountain bikes will.

The most hazardous thing for bikers is always been the problem... drivers of cars!!! It doesn't matter if I have had a bike lane or not, I always have to be constantly aware of all cars on the road and taking preemptive steps to make sure the car doesn't hit me. Shouldn't they have some responsibility in this arrangement? They are the ones in a life ending size vehicle and I am on one that could only cause a dent in a car if I aimed for it.

Since, these rules will probably never change, I will just mumble more about this under my breath and keep watching out for the next car that will hit me because they were too busy talking on the phone or changing the radio station to notice another human being.

Stock up on your gear!

Well, it’s that time of year again, time for Thanksgiving and Black Friday, the two busiest days of my life. One day I spent cooking and eating the greatest food on Earth, then I have a midday nap and I get ready to stand out in the cold so that I can get amazing shopping deals. I have decided to think a little more about me this year then usual and have decided to stock up on new gear for myself. There is nothing wrong with this, it's the season of giving, might as well give to the person you love the most. ;)

Though, I have figure out a way to even get more off on my Black Friday sales. My master plan this year is to get gift certificates that at a discount on sites like citydeals or others and then use them for payment on my items. This is what I call a double bonus, a genius move on my part!
